Typhoon Egay infra damage nears P7 billion — DPWH

MANILA, Philippines — Damage to infrastructure caused by Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) and the southwest monsoon or “habagat” has climbed to almost P7 billion, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). 

The DPWH said that the combined effects of Egay and habagat left some P6.94 billion in damage to roads, bridges, and flood-control structures nationwide.

In its noon report, the DPWH – Bureau of Maintenance said damage to roads and highways was pegged at P1.17 billion, P162.6 million for bridges, and P5.60 billion for flood-control structures.

Of the damaged and affected roads, DPWH said that its Quick Response Teams have so far cleared and reopened 44 roads — 22 roads in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 16 in Region 1 (Ilocos), three in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley), and one each in Regions 3 (Central Luzon), Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan) and Region 6 (Western Visayas).

Meanwhile, the following 17 roads are still closed due to clearing operations and maintenance: 

Abra

• Abra-Ilocos Norte Road (intermittent sections due to soil collapse and fallen trees)
• Abra-Kalinga Road (intermittent sections due to soil collapse and fallen trees)

Apayao

• Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road (intermittent sections in Dibagat, Kabugao due to soil collapse)
• Claveria-Calanasan-Kabugao Road (intermittent sections in Naguilian, Ferdinand, Namaltugan, and Ninoy, Calanasan due to soil collapse; including Sugoc Bridge in Ninoy due to damaged bridge)
• Apayao – Ilocos Norte Road (intermittent sections in Namaltugan, Butao, and Tubungan, in Calanasan due to soil collapse)

Kalinga

• Kalinga – Abra Road (intermittent sections in Balbalasang, Balbalan due to fallen trees, soil collapse, and road cut)

Mountain Province

• Baguio – Bontoc Road, Mt. Data section in Bauko (to ensure the safety of the public)
• Dantay – Sagada Road, K0390+900 (due to collapsed pavement)

Ilocos Sur

• Vigan-Sta. Catalina Road, Pantay-Daya Bridge (due to erosion of soil surrounding the bridge’s foundation)
• Quirino-Pandan Road, Quirino-Pandan Bridge (due to soil erosion surrounding the bridge’s foundation)
• Vigan-San Vicente Road, Roxas Bridge (due to soil erosion surrounding the bridge’s foundation)

Pampanga

• Apalit-Macabebe-Masantol Road (intermittent sections in Barangay San Gabriel, Macabebe, Pampanga due to flooding)
• Candaba – San Miguel Road in Barangay Paralaya, Candaba (due to flooding)
• Baliwag – Candaba – Sta Ana Road in Barangay San Agustin, Candaba (due to flooding)
• Bahay Pare – San Luis – Sto. Domingo Road, sections in Barangay Sta. Monica, San Luis (due to flooding)

Zambales

• Olangapo-Bugallon Road, Yamot Bridge, Detour, Yamot, Candelaria (due to high water elevation)

Iloilo

• Iloilo-Antique Road in Barangay Quianan, San Joaquin (due to landslide)
