2 pedestrians dead in Quezon road mishaps

LUCENA CITY –– Two pedestrians died Monday and Tuesday after passing vehicles hit them along the Maharlika Highway in Quezon province.

A Quezon police report said Vivencio Llames Jr., 51, was crossing the highway when an unidentified vehicle bumped him in Barangay Sampaloc 2 in Sariaya town at 2:10 a.m. Tuesday.

The vehicle sped away after the incident, the report said.

Llames, who suffered grave injuries, died while being taken to a hospital in neighboring Candelaria town.

In Atimonan town, Angelito Banton, 45, was hit by a Manila-bound van driven by Domingo Literal at Maharlika Highway in Barangay Magsaysay around 10:30 a.m. Monday.

The gravely injured victim also died while being taken to a hospital in the town center.

The police said the van swerved to the right shoulder of the highway and hit Banton, who was walking on the roadside.
