Work in lower QC courts to dismiss early for Marcos’ Sona
MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Court Administrator of the Supreme Court ordered the early dismissal of work in all Quezon City lower courts on July 24 (Monday), the day of President Bongbong Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (Sona).
In a memorandum signed by Court Administrator Raul Villanueva, the office stated that the early dismissal was ordered in anticipation of the heavy traffic, among other things, that may transpire at the Halls of Justice in Quezon City due to the Sona.
“In view of the anticipated heavy traffic and difficulties that may be encountered in going to or leaving the premises of the Halls of Justice in Quezon City due to the scheduled Sona of President Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr., and as authorized by Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, work in all courts/offices in Quezon City shall be suspended starting 1:00 in the afternoon on July 24, 2023,” the memorandum reads.
“All branches and offices shall ensure that all court users are properly notified of the work suspension and should continue to function virtually through their respective official email accounts and contact numbers. Likewise, and if possible, a skeleton staff should be maintained by the courts/offices to address or attend to urgent matters or concerns of court users during the rest of the day,” it adds.
As of writing, Sandiganbayan and the Court of Tax Appeals – which are both located in Quezon City – have yet to issue an advisory regarding the early dismissal of its employees in time for Marcos’ awaited address.
