MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) maintains its strength as it passes over the coastal waters of Aparri in Cagayan province, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

In its 8 a.m. cyclone update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Egay was last located over the waters of Fuga Island, moving west-southwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (kph).

The typhoon was packing maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 240 kph, Pagasa added.

“In the next 6 hours, Egay may exhibit trochoidal or wobbling motion while in the vicinity of the Babuyan Islands. As such, a landfall over northwestern Cagayan is not ruled out,” it noted.
