Over 600 flood-hit families evacuated in Zambales province
SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — More than 600 families in this province evacuated to safer grounds after heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon flooded their homes on Friday night (July 28).
Rolex Estella, head of the provincial disaster risk reduction management office, told the Inquirer that as of Saturday morning (July 29), 668 families from different towns in the province have been displaced.
The evacuees are now temporarily sheltered in 17 evacuation centers while some evacuated to their relatives’ homes.
The Zambales province experienced non-stop rains since the start of the week due to Typhoon “Egay” (international name: Doksuri). Egay left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday (July 27) but it still affected most parts of Luzon until Friday.
At 11 p.m. on Friday, Tropical Storm Khanun entered PAR and was named “Falcon,” according to a bulletin from Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Saturday.
