Over 300 COVID-19 cases detected in Ilocos region in 1 week

Health authorities said that they have detected at least 346 COVID-19 cases in Ilocos provinces between May 28 and June 3, marking the second week that the number of additional infections in the region surpassed the 300-mark.

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte—Health authorities said that they have detected at least 346 COVID-19 cases in Ilocos provinces between May 28 and June 3, marking the second week that the number of additional infections in the region surpassed the 300-mark.

The health care utilization rate continued to be in the “safe” zone despite the rise in COVID-19 cases in the past week, according to the weekly advisory released on Monday (June 5) by the regional office of the Department of Health.

Data showed that the infections raised to 539 the active COVID-19 cases in the region as of Monday.

At least 13 percent of the 184 intensive care unit (ICU) beds set aside for suspect, probable, and confirmed cases, had been occupied.

Eight of those treated in the health facilities were tagged as severe and critical admissions. according to the DOH.

While 13 percent, or 131 of the 971 non-ICU beds, were also occupied.

The DOH also said that one person died because of the disease in the past week.

In a separate bulletin, the independent pandemic monitor Octa Research said the Ilocos region’s provinces of La Union and Pangasinan were among the provinces in the country that had the highest weekly COVID-19 positivity rate from May 27 to June 3.

La Union’s weekly positivity rate was 17.4 percent, and Pangasinan’s positivity rate was 23.2 percent, both breaching the five-percent threshold recommended by the World Health Organization, which signifies that the spread of the virus is under control. INQ
