MANILA, Philippines —  The city of Makati on Monday launched a mobile library to provide students and residents with free reading and learning materials in an effort to address education gaps caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Mayor Abby Binay said that the project, tagged as “Makati Mobile Library,” was launched at Makati Elementary School as part of the city government’s efforts to boost  proficiency levels for basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, which it noted fell behind during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Makati Mobile Library is a testament to our commitment to providing quality education in the city. By making books and educational materials easily accessible, we hope to inspire a love for reading and learning,” Binay said.

“We want to make sure that all our students are equipped with the right basic knowledge before proceeding to the next grade level,” she added.
