MANILA, Philippines — Jeepney and tricycle drivers will each get a one-time P6,000 fuel subsidy by late August from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the agency announced on Tuesday.

In an ambush interview, LTFRB chair Teofilo Guadiz III told reporters that the distribution of the subsidy would begin in selected parts of Metro Manila. But he said that, at the moment, the exact number of beneficiaries had not yet been determined.

“When the price of oil increases, as it is happening now, the subsidy is automatically in the General Appropriations Act,” Guadiz said in Filipino when asked why the LTFRB was distributing the subsidy.
