MANILA, Philippines — Residents of low-lying areas near Angat River are advised to be on alert as Ipo Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan released water shortly after noontime on Sunday, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
As of 12 noon, Pagasa said the dam’s water level is at 101.53 meters and is expected to rise further due to continuous rainfall.
Dam administrators released 40.8 cubic meters per second of water.
Residents near the banks of Angat River in Norzagaray, Angat, San Rafael, Bustos, Baliuag, Pulilan, Plaridel and Hagonoy are advised to be on alert for possible increase in the water level downstream.
The “habagat” is currently being enhanced and pulled by Typhoon Fabian, which is now outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
