Grenade attack kills teacher in Cotabato town
KIDAPAWAN CITY — A public school teacher in Pikit town, Cotabato, died from shrapnel wounds after she was hit by a grenade hurled by still unidentified suspects at her house in Barangay Ginatilan around 2 a. m. on Thursday, police said.
Marichu Cabañog, 42, who teaches at Balong Elementary School, had severe wounds from the waist down, said Lt. Col. Miredel Calinga, Pikit police chief.
Calinga said the grenade entered the house through an open space near the window and landed in the area where Cabañog was sleeping. Her husband and siblings were unharmed.
Cabañog was the second teacher slain in Pikit in three weeks.
On May 26, Joel Reformado, a teacher at Damalasak Elementary School, was shot and killed by unidentified suspects outside the school.
