MANILA, Philippines — Flooding may hit low-lying areas of Metro Manila and Central Luzon on Sunday due to the combined effects of southwest monsoon “habagat” and severe tropical storm Falcon (international name: Khanun), the state weather bureau said on Sunday.

In its 8 a.m. heavy rainfall advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) placed Metro Manila, Bataan, and Zambales (San Marcelino, San Felipe, San Narciso, San Antonio, Castillejos, Subic, and Olongapo) under “yellow” warning.

“A yellow rainfall advisory is raised when the expected rainfall amount is between 7.5 mm and 15 mm within one hour and is likely to continue,” Pagasa said.

On the other hand, light to moderate rains are expected in Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Laguna, Batangas, and Quezon in the next two to three hours.

The state weather bureau said that Falcon was last monitored 1,190 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon, moving 15 kilometers per hour (kph) and carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kph and gusts of up to 115 kph.
