An initial investigation showed that strong waves around 7 a.m. hit and damaged the fishers’ boat.

The local coast guard deployed a vessel to respond to the distressed boat after learning about the incident from other fishermen.

Alueta’s body was recovered while his three companions were brought to the rural health unit for a medical examination.

Philippine Coast Guard provincial officer Cydney Sagario said no gale warning was issued on Thursday, prompting the fishermen to venture into the open sea. INQ
