Fire at public market in Negros Occidental reaches P7 million
BACOLOD CITY — The cost of damage due to a fire at the Barangay Cabacungan Public Market in La Castellana, Negros Occidental on Monday was pegged at around P7 million.
SFO3 Eulogio Patriarca, acting municipal fire marshal, said the fire destroyed 18 market stalls and goods.
“The fire spread quickly through the stalls that were made of light materials with plywood partitions,” he said.
Patriarca said the fire could have been caused by faulty electrical wiring or by cooking at one of the stalls.
“We have sent samples to the Bureau of Fire Protection national office to determine the exact cause of the fire,” he said.
