Egyptian bombmaker, 2 Sayyaf bandits killed in clash with soldiers in Sulu
ZAMBOANGA CITY — An Egyptian bomb maker and two members of the Abu Sayyaf group were killed in a clash with soldiers Friday night, April 16, in Sulu.
Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., chief of the military’s Western Mindanao Command, identified the Egyptian as a certain Yusop, said to be the son of the woman who carried out a suicide bombing attack on a military detachment in Indanan town in September 2019.
The two others killed were identified as Abu Khattab Jundullah, also known as Saddam, and a certain Akram.
Vinluan said troops of the Army’s 4th Light Reaction Company clashed with the terrorists for 10 minutes in Ipasan village of Patikul town past 10 p.m. on Friday.
After the bandits scampered away, the soldiers brought the three dead bodies to the Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista in Jolo town for proper disposition.
Also found in the encounter site were three high-powered firearms with scope (one M653, one M203, and one R4), eight long and one short steel magazines, 85 rounds of M16 ammunition, one round of M203 ammunition, two bandoliers, and personal belongings.
