DBM approves recruitment of 4,000 PCG personnel
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the recruitment of an additional 4,000 personnel for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
“This significant increase in manpower will reinforce the strength of the PCG and contribute to establishing a more robust coast guard organization,” the PCG said in a statement on Wednesday.
This will bring the total number of PCG personnel to 30,430 by the end of 2023.
The newly recruited personnel will be assigned to various PCG stations and substations to address the current shortage of personnel in coastal towns.
“This deployment will substantially enhance the PCG’s capability to effectively carry out its essential role in maritime governance across the Philippine archipelago.
“The PCG plays a critical role in safeguarding lives and property at sea, enforcing maritime law, protecting the marine environment, and asserting our maritime jurisdiction.
“Adding these personnel will significantly contribute to the ongoing success of these efforts,” the PCG further said.
