Bongbong Marcos 2nd Sona: No classes in QC on July 24 – Belmonte
MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday announced that classes in Quezon City are suspended on July 24 to give way to the second State of the Nation Address (Sona) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Belmonte issued Executive Order No. 23, declaring no classes for students at all levels in all public and private schools in the city.
Marcos is slated to deliver his Sona at the House of Representatives in Batasan Hills, Quezon City, on Monday.
“Base sa Executive Order No. 23, idineklara ni Mayor Joy Belmonte na walang pasok sa lahat ng antas ng pribado at pampublikong paaralan sa Quezon City sa July 24, 2023 (Lunes) upang bigyang daan ang State of the Nation Address (Sona) ni President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” the Quezon City Government wrote on Twitter.

The suspension of classes in Quezon City for Marcos’ second Sona comes as several schools started or are about to begin their School Year 2023-2024 this week. The local government unit explained that road closures for the Sona may affect students of “summer classes” at some Quezon City schools even as other schools just went on a “summer break.”
Jeepney groups, meanwhile, are also planning to mount a transport strike on Monday, in time for the Sona. They are accusing the national government of giving preferential treatment to corporations and local governments regarding routes rather than supporting transport cooperatives.
