1,419 people flee homes due to Dodong, southwest monsoon
MANILA, Philippines — A total of 1,419 individuals or 400 families have fled their homes and evacuated to safer grounds due to the prevailing southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by Tropical Storm Dodong (international name: Talim), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.
Dodong left the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday afternoon but monsoon rains continued to affect the country, particularly over its western section.
The evacuees were temporarily housed in 36 evacuation centers in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas, the NDRRMC said.
Class suspensions
Four incidents of landslides were reported due to the heavy rain, while 29 areas experienced flooding in Ilocos and Central Luzon, but have mostly subsided.
A total of 14 roads in the Ilocos region and another three in the Cordillera were impassable to vehicles.
The continuous rainfall also resulted in class suspensions and power interruptions, the NDRRMC said. Domestic flights and sea trips were also canceled.
Over P267,000 worth of assistance has been provided to the regions of Ilocos, Central Luzon, and Mimaropa.
